Could almost be me writing this. I may be a &...Wow! Could almost be me writing this. I may be a "little" better about actually buying supplies, but my sister isn't and she dehoards to me. I have my modest collection of art supplies and my mom's not-so-modest collection that I think I might use (but have actually used very little), more yarn than I'll ever use (I don't knit or crochet), enough threads to last the rest of my life (with plenty of leftovers), and enough fabric for probably 100 quilts that I keep thinking I'm going to make for charity (and haven't, yet), and art quilts I've started or roughly sketched in my journal or head (along with the other materials I want to use for them). And books! That's one of two things I continue to buy/collect. I will ALWAYS buy books. And on sale or free? You betcha! The other is machine embroidery designs. 90% are free, so how can I pass them up? Most don't remain free and I might, just possibly want that particular one. And I digitize my own designs, too

Today, as I was reading Spirit Cloth, and got the urge to start yet another project, it dawned on me that I'm probably actually more interested in learning how-to than in actually doing. I think that's partly due to the putting things off 'til I have spending money/retire while reading the how-tos and taking classes when I could afford it. I mean, practice makes perfect, right? That's what I practiced most often. And I want to kick myself for not doing, but the frustration was I didn't always have what I needed to do whatever...so... Now I have the stuff but the pattern is learn and delay, not learn and do. (And the weirdest thing is I actually think I was more creative when I wanted to make something badly enough and had to make do with what I had--which was never enough of the "right stuff.")

So, you are definitely not alone. I have frequently wondered in the last few years "Will I EVER see my WHOLE house clean at the same time? Not to mention organized?tongfengdemaohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17109314578773780990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-72236790343139042732021-01-06T08:08:59.968-08:002021-01-06T08:08:59.968-08:00WOW!WOW!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-72623567271330072022020-10-18T02:13:27.133-07:002020-10-18T02:13:27.133-07:00Wonderful photos! Well, I don't feel better because you suffer similar things, as outlined above, but I feel quite a bit less alone! :-) I made a reply to myself on the next post and I was just about to reply to my reply, but I'm out of time. There are many things I gripe about because they aren't perfect that I should really remember to be happy about, because they are better than they might be. I went to the doctor and he says I have high blood pressure. Pahhh, I used to have very low blood pressure. Oh, well, now I know I will be eating better and exercising more. I was sort of trending that way, but now it feels considerably more urgent. That might have been why I was so grumpy as well......well, we forge on and some weeks are good and some weeks are not so good.... :-)
Y-Knothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11579937407557006219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-54410387521134827272016-08-13T20:52:56.415-07:002016-08-13T20:52:56.415-07:00LOL I may not be reading in a timely manner (anyw...LOL I may not be reading in a timely manner (anywhere from a week to a month behind), but I do read and I'm not a bot. That said, I can identify with most of what you've listed here. You're doing better than I, though. 1) yes, 2) back/hip aches, but no exercise, 3) don't see my progeny nearly enough, 4) what vacation?, 5) OMG! YES!, 6) I still haven't completed my SPRING planting (I have tomatoes only because they volunteer), 7 & 8) I have plentu to read, but le myself get suckered into watching the TV shows Iqbal is watching--soccer and "true" ghost stories, 9) no Spanish, no Chinese, no Urdu/Hindi, 10) too much giving up and taking it easy, 11) I'm too content avoiding human contact, though I do get to interact daily with Iqbal, 12) well, you got me here. I've never liked alcohol, and 13) I haven't blogged in ages (since we mid May. I know that some alebrijes in Mexico are made from papier mâché rather than copal wood (which is a good thing because the wood runs out eventually). I never thought that they might be almost as durable as the wood. Haha, my daughter would love Gothic style furniture! Of course I would have to stain/paint it black. :-)
Y-Knothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11579937407557006219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-1832971465370582522016-07-24T23:33:54.061-07:002016-07-24T23:33:54.061-07:00My mom learned that stage coaches were often made ...My mom learned that stage coaches were often made of papier mâché. After they, or the parts, were made, they were soaked in linseed oil to make them impervious to the weather to a good extent.
I used to design dining room furniture (as a defense against boredom at the bank where I worked) made with papier mâché. If done right, and with the linseed oil or something like marine polyurethane, I figured they would last at least as long as any Ikea type furniture. And I could make them Gothic if I wanted. (Well, it was the 70's.)

~Faithtongfengdemaohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17109314578773780990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-66543233689459203752016-07-24T07:18:23.428-07:002016-07-24T07:18:23.428-07:00Thanks! I also have a multitude of things going on, to the extent that I just feel like I am scratching at the surface of things all the time. The more crafts I read about and the more museums I visit, however, the more connections I see with materials and techniques. When humans are faced with the ability to dye things or the ability to make strings, they tend to discover similar things on their own. :-)Y-Knothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11579937407557006219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-34850794953926804302016-07-23T20:01:23.825-07:002016-07-23T20:01:23.825-07:00I did a quick search of "African Art on comme...I did a quick search of "African Art on commercial cloth" and got this exhibit and other art museums and some pdfs. My camera is just a "point and click...thanks! My camera is just a "point and click", a Canon SX720HS. I had just bought it before I went on vacation, but it was similar to the one I had first, so I didn't have to take much time to learn how to use it. I took a lot of decent photos here because I stayed here for a week, and would go out early in the morning and in the evenings when the light was best. I took photos of the same subjects several times and these are just the best of those.

Also I do a lot of what they call "post processing". I use a program called Lightroom to select the parts of the photo I want to use, then I use it to adjust contrast. Before I adjusted the contrast a lot of these photos were much less bright and clear looking. There are a few other things I've been doing in this program, but what's especially nice is that it helps you organize and categorize your photos. I took a class where I used it, but also there is someone online named Anthony Morganti, and he has a lot of tutorials.
I first met you in Sharon's Gimp class, didn't I? Gimp will also do much of what Lightroom does, except for the organizing. Only when I use Gimp I start to play around and use special effects to make things more abstract. It's all fun! Photoshop also works and I've had some training in it, but Lightroom and Gimp are much easier for me to use.Y-Knothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11579937407557006219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-83107493581590259522016-05-11T07:58:47.208-07:002016-05-11T07:58:47.208-07:00Thanks, Ms Sharma. For embossing I generally use grain merge, but you can get some awesome effects with any/all of them. I sometimes take a photo, duplicate it and change the color in the duplicate in (second option under color)(because same color is total black or gray in some modes). Then I make visible copies of each mode change. Sometimes even the ones that are really dark to the eye turn out very nice with a touch of auto color. It gets even more interesting when I do modes with the origina mode visibles. Or using more than two layers. And I just now thought, using a gradient with a photo. (I've done gradient on gradient for frames, but I'm not sure if I've tried gradient with photo.)

And thanks for mentioning color to alpha. That's one I didn't know anything about.

~Faithtongfengdemaohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17109314578773780990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655536734001955220.post-44380763288094334532016-04-05T22:19:56.679-07:002016-04-05T22:19:56.679-07:00Nice effort.
