That Clean Up Woman

I've bitched complained about this topic in the recent past. The urge to toss everything that doesn't please you, as if you were about to be evicted or start out on the Oregon Trail. I have nothing against clean up projects, I'm gently engaged upon several myself. It's the trendiness I mistrust, and the way that people are willing to be led by somebody else's "method."

But I have to admit I spend too many of my non-craft hours on Twitter, where the opinions fly fast and furious and people are prone to declaring blunt and unwavering opinions as if they were truth imparted by a Higher Spirit. So I am not being my usual calm and generous self here, I am picking a fight with an imaginary foe, for the joy of reviewing my own convictions.

However, there is this little bit of information: Once you've tossed your junk and your under-appreciated family heirlooms, it turns out she will happily sell you some of her NEW stuff to fill up those gaps in your decor. No link provided, go find it yourself. :-). Nice, tasteful stuff, unlike your previous nasty stuff that you recently hauled to the dump. In shades of inoffensive gray. Priced accordingly.

Nothing wrong with that...she can sell what she wishes and you all can buy what you wish....it just proves my point, however! An empty space tends to fill itself with newly purchased stuff, so why not just stick with some of the old stuff and learn to appreciate it?

Just envision yourself 15 years from now also tossing the stuff you bought from her because it no longer makes you happy, doesn't go with who you imagine you would like to be. Or perhaps you will keep it and learn to redefine happiness.... Perhaps also there will be no other option by then.
